Bad weather fails to dampen spirits at golfing day
East Midlands, [31 May 2007] Maintaining its tradition of holding a charity golf event on a day that is better suited to indoor sports, East Midlands-based Fairgrove Homes has raised a whopping £1,820 for the County Air Ambulance charity.
The event, held at Morley Hayes Golf Club, saw more than 25 teams battling it out to take top spot. Speaking as he presented the awards, Steve Midgley, managing director of Fairgrove Homes, said: “At the bottom end of the scale there was stiff competition for the booby prize – which is probably to be expected given the poor weather! But there was just as much competition among the top three, although the team run by Freeth Cartwright solicitors eventually walked away with top spot and a score of 78 points.”
“We started backing the County Air Ambulance last year,” explained Steve. “It’s a really worthwhile cause that does fantastic work throughout the region. And while we all hope we will never need to call on it, it is reassuring to know that – thanks to the donations of individuals and local business – it is there if we need it. But it needs donations to continue its service providing cover seven days a week over 8,000 square miles for 7.8 million people.”
He added: “Once again, the weather wasn’t ideal, but it didn’t put us off playing. The good spirit and generosity of all those that took part helped make lots of money for the County Air Ambulance.”
Speaking as she collected the cheque, Ann Harvey, volunteer coordinator with the County Air Ambulance, said: “As a charity we rely completely on the generosity of companies like Fairgrove to stay operational. Our service needs £3.5 million a year, otherwise the service can’t operate, so we really appreciate everybody’s efforts today.”
“This is the latest fundraiser that Fairgrove has held for the County Air Ambulance,” says Steve. “Over the year, we’ve raised more than £1,000 through other business initiatives, and we expect to raise more in the coming months.”
Fairgrove raised £1,750 for the charity during the day, and a further £70 after the event, bringing the grand total to £1820.
