Fairgrove backs regional innovation

Ilkeston, Derbyshire [2 August 05] With the East Midlands positioned as one of the rising stars of the UK economy, Ilkeston-based property developer Fairgrove Homes is looking for more land to meet the requirements of a growing professional population. To drive the land search forward, Ian Mackenzie has taken on the role of land and sales manager.

“As a region that is growing a reputation for innovation in Europe and beyond, more senior executives are moving into the area,” says Ian. “These professionals work in a variety of sectors, but we’re seeing incredible growth in the numbers of people involved in high tech industries. Unsurprisingly, their housing requirements go beyond bricks and mortar to include the latest must-have gadgets such as home networking and under-floor heating.”

By 2010 the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) wants the region to be one of the top twenty in Europe.

“I believe we can contribute to the success of the region by continuing to work with partners to deliver houses – and communities – that senior executives want to set up home in,” says Ian. “This means offering high quality homes with all the latest sexy gadgets in the right locations. But we can’t do this alone. We need local people to tell us of any sites they have – both green- and brown-field – that they believe would be great locations for technically savvy professionals to live in. The land could be a large back garden or a rambling old property.”

In the past, Fairgrove has built new homes from scratch as well as turning old mills and back gardens into well-proportioned homes targeted at the professional market. “Location is the key to people in these industries,” says Ian. “Some of these high tech experts want to be in urban areas, while others are opting for country living. Either way, facilities such as great bars and pubs as well as good access to the region’s transport network are essential.”
