Anniversary surprise for Rainbows

21 January 05

Staff at Rainbows Children’s Hospice received a surprise birthday present this week when Steve Midgley, managing director of Fairgrove Homes, swapped his hard hat for a party hat and presented a TV/DVD to the East Midlands-based charity.

Fairgrove Homes has been backing Rainbows Children’s Hospice since May 2004 and Steve’s presentation of a TV/DVD marks the latest in a round of fund-raising and gift initiatives from the company. “During the summer months we held a successful charity golf tournament and began contributing subscriptions to Rainbows’ lottery appeal,” says Steve. “Now, with winter upon us – and the post-Christmas blues setting in – it’s a great time for us to celebrate the excellent work that Rainbows has done during its 10 years. And for us, it is a double celebration, as Fairgrove Homes is also celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.”

Jo Plant, appeals manager, Rainbows Children’s Hospice, comments: “We’ve been working hard for 10 years to ensure that families who have a child with a life-limiting illness live as normal a life as possible. Fairgrove Homes’ gift of a TV/DVD will ensure more children can watch some of their favourite movies throughout the year.”

She continues: “It’s a testament to the generosity of people throughout the East Midlands that we are still in operation today. As a children’s hospice for the whole of the East Midlands, we rely on the generosity of local businesses like Fairgrove Homes to help the children in our care. Since we were established, we have helped more than 1,000 people. We receive only 6% government funding, so the help that Fairgrove Homes gives in terms of support and donations is essential for our ongoing survival.”

“Rainbows Children’s Hospice provides valuable respite, palliative and terminal care to families who have a child with a life-limiting illness and we are pleased to be associated with the charity,” says Steve. “Based close to Fairgrove’s developments at Sutton Bonington and Olders Valley, the hospice provides us with a perfect opportunity to put something back into the communities in which we work.”
