East Midlands, [07 March 08] Ilkeston-based Fairgrove Homes has confirmed it has nominated Rainbows Children’s Hospice at its chosen charity for the next two years. The new homes firm last linked up with the Loughborough-based charity for a two-year stint in 2004, and saw first-hand the massive difference the charity could make to families touched by a child with a life-limiting illness.
“It’s always been important to Fairgrove to support groups that serve our local communities,” explains Steve Midgley, Managing Director of Fairgrove Homes. “We were so impressed by the work that this charity offers in providing respite, palliative and terminal care to families that include a child with a life-limiting illness that it was a natural choice for us to return to them again.”
Fairgrove has several initiatives planned that will help Rainbows raise much-needed funds to continue providing expert care. Steve says: “In May, we will once again be holding a golf tournament to raise money for the charity, and we are looking for kind-hearted business people to take part in the day and dig deep in their pockets during the event.”
To get the ball rolling, Simon Midgley, Marketing Executive at Fairgrove visited Rainbows this week to present some remote control cars to the charity.
“It’s humbling to hear how families and children cope so bravely with illness,” says Simon. “I know that all the staff at Fairgrove are committed to doing all they can to help raise funds and improve the quality of life of those under Rainbows care.”
Rowan Macmillan, corporate fundraiser for Rainbows says, “From the support of companies such as Fairgrove Homes we are able to continue to provide services for young people and children throughout the East Midlands. We are very grateful that they wish to support us”.

About Rainbows Children’s Hospice
Rainbows Children’s Hospice is the only children’s hospice in the East Midlands providing respite, palliative and end-of-life care to life-limited children and support for their families. Children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions come to the hospice for specialist respite stays, symptom management, palliative and end-of-life care. Their families, too, are supported and helped by Rainbows on their difficult journey.
At Rainbows the emphasis is on enriching life and making each minute of each short life count. Each child is treated as an individual and helped by the skilled, experienced team to get the most from life and enjoy it to the full.
Rainbows receives less than 6% statutory funding and relies on donations to raise the £2.6 million needed each year to run the hospice.
