Local Info
The name Branston is Old English and means an estate belonging to a man called Brant, a personal name of Scandinavian origin. The medieval village stood near the river, its situation possibly determined by proximity to a ford.
Main Street was laid out to the north in the early 19th century, and a new village centre developed along the road. Within the 1880's a Congregational chapel was opened, along with a post office and two rows of terrace houses the Cambridge and Anglesey Cottages.
Today Branston is home to a number of recreational and leisure facilities including:- Branston Water Park, a 40 acre lake surrounded by woodland, wetland and wildflower meadow that supports a rich variety of bird and wildlife. Branston Golf and Country Club which also incorporates leisure facilities and, also, Trentside cricket club formely known as Burton's working men's cricket club found on the south side of the Burton Road.
