East Midlands, [07 April 2008]For the fifth year in a row Fairgrove Homes is inviting local business and golf enthusiasts to take up its annual golf challenge to help raise much-needed funds for a local cause at its Charity Golf Day, to be held on 21 May 2008.

This year’s event will enable Fairgrove to raise money for Rainbows Children’s Hospice, which it has committed to supporting for two years. “We previously backed Rainbows between 2003 and 2005, and were so inspired by the valuable work they are doing to help local children and young people with life limiting and life-threatening conditions, that we decided to renew our support for them,” explains Steve Midgley, managing director, Fairgrove Homes. “The event is a great opportunity for local business people and sports enthusiasts to build and renew contacts in a relaxed environment while putting something back into the community.”

Once again, Morley Hayes Golf and Conference Centre will be hosting the event. “It’s a great location to try to reduce your handicap, go for a hole in one or just get round the course before retiring for a beer,” says Steve.

The golf tournament will take place throughout the afternoon of 21 May, with the first teams teeing off at 1:00pm. “This is a team of four event, playing a Stableford competition, but individuals are welcome and will be allocated to a team,” says Steve. “In the evening, the action moves from the golf course to Morley Hayes restaurant where players can revel in their successes and enjoy some good food, wine and beer followed by a prize giving and raffle.”

Last year generous business people helped Fairgrove raise more than £1,800, and the firm hopes many will dig deep into their pockets once again. “We’re constantly amazed by the good will of local businesses,” says Steve. “We’re aware that many people are tightening their belts this year, but we’re still optimistic that we can match last year’s figure through money raised on green fees as well as via our traditional raffle. To help us achieve this, we’re asking local businesses to donate prizes that we can raffle during the evening. In the past we’ve received very generous donations, ranging from wines and spirits to gym membership and golf lessons, so we’re hoping to be able to offer the same eclectic mix of prizes this year.”

About Rainbows Children’s Hospice
Rainbows Children’s Hospice is the only children’s hospice in the East Midlands providing respite, palliative and end-of-life care to life-limited children and support for their families. Children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions come to the hospice for specialist respite stays, symptom management, palliative and end-of-life care. Their families, too, are supported and helped by Rainbows on their difficult journey.
At Rainbows the emphasis is on enriching life and making each minute of each short life count. Each child is treated as an individual and helped by the skilled, experienced team to get the most from life and enjoy it to the full.
Rainbows receives less than 6% statutory funding and relies on donations to raise the £2.6 million needed each year to run the hospice.
